Christmas with A Cop is a beneficial and inspiring program directly supporting the impoverished and underprivileged children within our community, with help and support from the community. The list of children helped each year is provided to the Sierra Vista Police Officer’s Association from Catholic Community Services, The Forgasch House, The Blake Foundation and other local agencies.
Money for the program is raised throughout the year through various forms of fund raising efforts. The Sierra Vista Police Officer’s Association hosts an annual golf tournament and Foot Pursuit 5K-10K race. These two events provide about 25% of the money raised. A majority of the money comes from local businesses, organizations and individuals, who give selflessly in support of this program.
Christmas with cop had its inaugural event in December of 2010 where enough money was raised to help 50 children. Since that time, we have increased the number of children helped each year as follows: 2011 – 71, 2012 – 75, 2013 – 106, 2014 – 110, and 2015 – 121 for a total of 533 kids.
The way the Christmas with a Cop program works is as follows; we will bring as many children as we have the money for to the local Target store. Each child will shop for their presents with a uniformed Officer and be able to spend up to $100. Target, one of our biggest sponsors, waves the sales tax associated with the purchase so the child will receive the full $100 in gifts.
A long with our partners from the Citizens Police Academy Associates, Fountain of Blessings, Toys for Tots, and Target, this program continues to be a huge success.
Thank you to everyone who has supported this great event over the last 6 years. Without the support of our generous community, this event would not be possible.
